Travelling is an exhilarating experience and it gives you the chance to discover new places and meet new people. Unfortunately, it is quite easy to forget that not everyone is trustworthy. According to the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC), the risk of identity theft has been increased in recent years. The following recommendations are extremely valuable and will help you protect your digital footprint and secure your identity.

  • As soon as you secure your cheap flight tickets, notify your bank of your travel plans. The majority of them freeze the accounts if they see suspicious activities out of country. Have in mind that some travel insurance offer identity theft services and passport & credit card services in case of emergency.
  • Make a copy of your ID, passport, driver’s license, credit card and health insurance card and carry them separately in case your wallet gets stolen.

Make sure that you have your flight tickets and boarding passes with you and prefer to use cash and credit cards while travelling.
  • Keep a password guard on your mobile phone and use the hotel safe for all your personal documents.
  • Be really careful when you use ATMs. Always prefer machines that are attached to banks in well-lit areas and don’t forget to block the view of your transaction when you enter your PIN. Also, be cautious with public Wi-Fi and never access your financial accounts when you use public networks.
  • Remember to check your bank statements often and change your PINs and passwords as soon as you get back!
